Underberg: “It all depends on the herbs”.
Underberg is produced by a family business in Germany and sold in these single-portion 20 ml bottles designed by Emil Underberg in 1949. The mini-bottle is protected by a straw paper sleeve with the Underberg label glued on it. All of its elements, including shape of the bottle, color, packaging and the Underberg name are trade marked and copyrighted and, according to wikipedia, the company has successfully defended its rights in over 1,200 court cases against other manufacturers.
Underberg is not a herbal liqueour, nor an amaro, nor a fernet. It is a digestif that contains 44 percent by volume premium-quality, kosher, alcohol and aromatic herbs from 43 countries. According to Underberg’s website, there is scientific proof that it stimulates the digestive system. Also in their web site they tell you how to taste it, how to open it and ask costumers for their trust regarding its secrete recipe and manufacturing process: “Your personal safety is our prime concern”, and the Underberg family guarantee to deliver products always with the same quality and effects.
During the Paris World Exhibition, in 1867, Hubert Underberg and glass artists from Murano, Italy developed the 24 cm exclusive Undeberg tall glass that can be yours if you mail them 96 Underberg bottle tops. (The original model with engraving will cost you 144 bottle tops). Also, for the Underberg family, “sophisticated table culture has always been an essential feature of any meal”. The original Underberg china plate edition featuring 6 different herbal designs made in germany by Villeroy & Boch are also available to their loyal consumers for 384 Underberg bottle tops a piece, and if you are some sortta Underberg freak, you can still have the 50x25cm Underberg Nostalgie-schild – 144 Underberg bottle tops – or/and the Unterberg Glass bar (A fancy glass/bottle holder), for 480 Underberg bottle tops.
